In reading interviews and stuff, I've always read that Shaw RAGGED on Dreyfuss the entire movie telling him he could be better than he was.. From what I've read, it got fairly uncomfortable at times.. Also, Scheider and Lorraine Gary hated each other in real life.. In one interview Gary said she was rooting for the shark at the end of the movie lol..
Yeah, Shaw is incredible in Jaws.. Like you said, sometimes a role is just MADE for an actor.. That was definitely one of them..
Shaw-wise, if you get REALLY bored, you can check out "The Deep" which was Peter Bechley's novel AFTER Jaws.. not near as good as Jaws, and Shaw wasn't nearly as charismatic.. But Jacqueline Bisset in a see-through wet shirt certainly will keep you watching.. and, yeah, I have an autographed photo of her.. lol
