tells the magnitude. Its what you really want to know. Not the significance. A relationship can be significant but have such a small effect its meaningless. Its not difficult to calculate. Many studies report an effect size. In this case they claim the magnitude was sufficiently large.

Further given the quality of the study if there was more relevant research I would think that they would cite it. You certainly would think a peer reviewer would point that out. If they didn't it makes you wonder why.
