Why was that money not spent on a US company to make these virtually worthless masks? These are not the N95 good ones, they're basic cloth masks. And the contract is for around 500 million masks? For a BILLION dollars? The state only has 40 million people and cloth masks are reusable.

For most circumstances, masks are worthless. They are only effective in protecting others when social distancing isn't possible, right? So, if you don't live or work in a densely populated area...like most Americans don't, you don't need a mask. On top of that, if everyone is sequestered at home and not working, who are these masks actually for?

In terms of your ungrounded assumptions about masks. Want real data? Japan is crowded, right? It has an amazingly low infection rate from covid-19. It's because the entire population wore masks. Other places where they wore masks early also had low infection rates. Like Hong Kong (a crowded place right?) There are others in Europe too including Austria.
It's data. Info. Places, no matter how crowded, where a large proportion of the population wore masks kept the infection rates down. That's the facts.
Facts are different from making stuff up in your head and stubbornly sticking to it for no good reason.
