I returned 3 gifts that I'd bought for Everett today. One of them I'd bought in September at Target and no longer had the receipt The other two I bought at JC Penney and I had the receipt. When I got to the Customer Service desk at Target, I told the clerk that I no longer had the receipt but that I buy everything on my ATM card and handed it to her so she could run it and find the purchase. But nothing came up because I made the purchase over 90 days ago. Target has a 90-day return policy (same as Wal-Mart) and if you don't return an item within that time period, you're just S.O.L. Even if I had the receipt, they would have denied the refund. I said to the lady at the Customer Service desk "I fully understand your 90-day return policy. However, for people like me who tend to shop early for Christmas... we are penalized because we won't know until Christmas, which is well after 90 days has passed, whether or not we need to return it. It just seems to me that things would be handled a bit differently at this time of year. So, what am I supposed to do with this?" She said, "I can refund you on a gift card". I said that works for me so she handed me a git card worth $38.
There were no lines at either store and the parking lots were not full either. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that today is a work day for lots of folks. But I'll bet the stores will be busy over the weekend with returns and exchanges when people are off and have the time to deal with it.
