I didn't see all the movies nominated for Best Picture this year... so obviously I can't say 1917 should have won.... but I can't imagine any of the other nominees, including the winner "Parasite", being any better.
I will have to watch in again... for entertainment sake, obviously, but also because throughout I was constantly plagued by the question, "how in the HELL did they film that?". The logistics are filming this movie are so overwhelming that yes... it actually got in the way of the story for me... at least on first viewing. In hindsight I'm not that sure the 'story' was the main point, to be honest.
That's no criticism of the 'story', by the way... which is amazing...it's just comment on how the visual can sometime supersede everything else.
I don't have a criticism of this movie... not a one. I think it's a masterpiece. - JamesJM
