I don’t live in Toronto, but I am surrounded by Leafs fans where I live. So the Bruins winning the series was an almost more of a relief than a feeling of joy for me. I would’ve really struggled with the Leafsmania that would’ve ensued had Toronto won. I have to say, this is the weakest Bruins playoff team in years. They looked average from the all-star break through to the end of the regular season. In front of their own net the defense looked lost at times, especially late in games. Their PK and PP were weak points as well. The only chance they had going into the first round was for either Ullmark or Swayman to stand on their heads, and Swayman did just that. They beat Florida last night, but I am dubious about their chances beyond game one. The Panthers had some time off, I think they’ll be much tougher the rest of the way. I will say this though, the Bruins young defenseman, Mason Lohrei has looked like a new player during the playoffs. He’s turning into an offensive threat and he has had less moments where he looked lost in the defensive zone. I guess if they can get balanced scoring like they did last night and most importantly Swayman continues to play like a brick wall anything is possible for the Bruins.
