I included "AppleTV" in the subject title so you'd be aware you can't see Manhunt without AppleTV.
I love history. All of it. But without doubt the era that interests me most is the Civil War Era... say, roughly, 1850 to 1880. NOT just the war.
Manhunt is about the hunt for John Wilkes Booth. I have read a LOT about Booth.... to include the hunt for him and his capture; so I didn't expect to learn anything new in this series.
Ok, the good: Actually, "incredibly good"... the sets, the costumes, the lighting. It's incredibly beautiful to watch. The actor who plays Edwin Stanton... his name is Tobias Menzies and he's excellent. But that is pretty much where any good acting, IMHO of course, ends as far as the 'major' roles. Some of the smaller roles are fine. Betty Gabriel, (very small role, so far that is), who plays Elizabeth Keckley is quite good I think.
I don't want to name names.... but unfortunately you'll guess who I'm calling out for their acting - it's everyone else in a major role.
The guy playing Lincoln is..... (shudder)... not good.
I've seen two episodes so will i stick with it? yes I will.... that's how much I'm intrigued by the Civil War Era. AND... there is some info that I had not read, or forgotten.... but I'm not sure they're 'accurate' or the writers getting a little too inventive with opinion. Not saying they have, saying I'm not sure.
If you really like history... and beautiful sets, costumes, lighting.... then sure... give it a go. Otherwise.... ehhhhh. - JamesJM
