Thinks I've said this before but most people have no idea how big a miracle that was.
Today about 25% of the players in the NHL are from the U.S. In 1980 it was less then 12%. The Red army team was made up of all the top players from the Soviet Unions 15 republics and they trained together 11 months out of the year. Think of the U.S. first basketball dream team times ten.
For a team of U.S. college players to beat that team it really was a miracle.
