I mean...He was in when they would literally punch you to get you in line. Even he used to tell me to go USAF because of better opportunities to learn a career job. My Dad said all he learned was to kill and fire a 5" gun on the USS Essex. Buuuuut....Even the USMC and Army have a lot more career ops these days. Thing is, you are still spending a LOT of time doing combat stuff and training. I told my Son that even the Navy...He'd spend a lot of time working or sleeping while on Cruises. Not a whole lot of time to get advanced career training or even some after hours College.. In the USAF, you have a MUCH better chance to get a TDY for advanced career training. I'm sure the Navy does too but if you are only doing 4 years, that window is VERY small.
With ALL of that said, my Son has a strong appreciation for the Military and its History. No matter what Branch or job he does, I KNOW he will come out feeling 10 feet tall.
