in our previous post about the dangers of cave diving, tha tI explained what a halocline was: where salt water mixes with fresh water and when you swim through it, it looks completely out of focus.. A guy I know just posted this pic of him going through a mild, VERY small halocline, but the effect is pretty visible.. "Out of focus" is a decent way to describe it, but "using a mosaic filter" would be the perfect explanation..
This is a VERY small halocline and fairly mild.. they can get MUCH bigger (take you up to 30 seconds to swim though) and much more pronounced - like you can't distinguish ANYTHING visually.. My wife will be two feet in front of me and I can't even tell she's there..
