Yeah, from what I've read, the Cancun area..

is deteriorating the most.. as you know, we hang out in the Akumal area - 60 miles south cf Cancun.. I know several people who own condos down there, including the condo owner where we always stay.. I ALMOST bought that condo in '93.. I am kicking myself for not buying it then for $55K when its worth around $450K now.. Anyways, the people I know who own property down there are getting a little more nervous at the way crime is on the uptick.. especially when they can all sell their properties and make bookoos of profit..

The only REAL reason we still go to Mexico is for the cave diving.. Dunno if you heard, but Mexico is trying to build a high speed railway from Cancun to Tulum than runs RIGHT OVER quite a bit of cave diving territory, which will close the caves - more than likely they would be filled in as they'd be at risk for collapsing with a high speed rail running right over them..

There is a spirited fight going to to stop all this.. once the caves are gone, they're gone.. it literally AMAZES me that humans cannot leave natural beauty alone and screw up EVERYTHING they touch..
