Ever see those videos of the amount of debris orbiting the earth? You'd swear the earth is blanketed by the debris. And It's a problem that will probably grow worse.... which is why they are working on a type of 'garbage' collection in earth orbit. However... even with all the debris...
space is huge... even around the earth.... and impacts are very unlikely. It will happen one day, however. - JamesJM
