Who here REEEEEEALLY trusts and feel comfy with THIS Defense making a stop when Rodgers, Brady, Mahomes when we take the lead by 4 points with 2 minutes or even ONE minute left. Or a 2 point lead with ANY other QB???
I typically don't try to answer for EVERYONE ON THE PLANET. But in this case, I can confidently say that NO ONE feels confident about THIS defense stopping those types of QB's in clutch time.
But that's the reason why:
A) the Rams gave up so much to acquire Von Miller (and not a cornerback) in trade last season;
B ) we desperately tried to re-sign him during the off-season; and,
C) Buffalo outbid us for his services.
Buffalo had Mahommes run through them in, what...14 seconds for a Divisional round game? And what was their response?
Dang! We need to get a cornerback or safety that can match up step-for-step with Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce? No, of course not. There's no such thing right now. Even elite CB's are toast after a couple of seconds.
So Buffalo (and the Rams before them) decided to do the next best thing...get after the QB before the ball is even thrown. The Rams (and I suspect most teams understand) that, in order to beat the Rodgers, the Bradys, and the Mahommes, they have to get to them before they get rid of the ball - early and often. This is why EDGES like Miller, TJ Watt, and Bosa are so valuable. And when you have someone like Donald who can do it even better on the inside...it's even better.

Last season.....WITH Miller on our Roster, we were sweating our backsides off in the NFC Title and Super Bowl. NOW. I give them ALLLLL the props in that Tampa Playoff. That was LIGHTS OUT (Outside of Ramsey)
Of course we were sweating. Those were highly-competitive games with everything on the line. But I suspect that there was a sense of confidence amongst Rams fans as well:
A) Pretty much everyone realizes by now (even Shanny) that Jimmy G ain't that guy; and,
B ) Oh, IDK...maybe by the 8th sack or whatever, I realized that Zac Taylor (like McVay) didn't have a short passing game to adjust to. Just kept letting Burrow take those deep drops and get broke up. If Aaron Donald wasn't going to sack him when he did (and yes, I still believe that should've been counted for a sack), somebody else was going to in the next play or two.
