don't know when they consider separation as well... after the top of the route? during the route?
Also, if you are small guy like Tutu... his catch radius is so much smaller and won't be able to use his body to shield defenders... so you would require him to be at the top of the WR list for separation.
If you are big bodied like Robinson, you don't need that much separation. Just need a QB to hit you.
Sort of like basketball.. easier to throw a ball to Shaq posting up, then throwing a ball to Spud Webb posting up.
