slow or a bad route runner, or both? They sure as heck aren't putting their number 1 corners on him, and he should be used to that.. Its all a big mystery..
Definitely agree on the "mystery" part.
In reviewing the articles posted on The Athletic when the acquisition/trade occurred, Jourdan Rodrigue reported that McVay wanted to get Robinson on board because he would allow the offense to evolve into its next iteration. All of the heavy pre-snap motion and jet-sweeps were to be phased out in favor of more empty backfield which McVay felt Stafford thrived in. When I responded to her article that: A) that empty backfield look was likely the turning point against the 9'ers in Week 18; and, that jet-sweep saved McVay's bacon in the Super Bowl, she acknowledged the irony. Regardless, though she didn't articulate it (maybe because the Rams didn't articulate it to her), she suggested that there were things Robinson could do that Woods couldn't.
So, fast-forward to this season, I find it interesting that we can't established a ground game (of which Woods was integral); see Kupp score a TD on a jet-sweep; and, see Brandon Powell take an inside hand-off for good yardage. And man...wouldn't it be nice to have the option line up another speedy WR next to Kupp on those WR screens? I mean...the safety couldn't automatically jump Kupp's route, could he?
I just hope that the lesson here isn't to be a team captain and to privately (and respectfully) go to your HC to discuss ways to make the offense be more effective.
