I get what you're saying but I'll be surprised if Wolford even suits up for a preseason game let alone play in one. I guess we'll have to rely on the staff to make the call based on what they see in camp and in the controlled scrimmages that are coming up. (And with any luck we'll never see him in a real game, depriving both of us of making a truly informed decision either way.).
One thing though: it was my impression that the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills were at game speed and the only thing missing was that they don't tackle to the ground. So the pass rush and blocking are at full speed, receivers get jammed or not depending on the defensive call, RBs and WRs carry out their assignments at full speed, etc. (Can someone who has seen camp set the record straight?).
In any event, I do realize that not hitting the QB makes Wolford's job easier. I just think reports that Wolford's arm strength has improved and that he's going thru his progressions is significant since it appears that he has improved a couple weak areas in his game, even if the reports merely compare his work in camp this year to his '21 camp.
It is a legit apples-to-apples comparison even though the final test is obviously his performance in live action.
