Well, to some fans (like me) there's a huge difference.

As I see it, retirement = "I'm done playing football" while a holdout = "I'm gonna stay home until you give me what I want."

When AD came into the league he said he was going to play 8 years and then retire. And now he has played 8 years. I think he wants to change his mind now that he's tasted a SB win. But I also think he has the right to change his mind on his terms. And if talking up that retirement option works in his favor ... we'll, personally I have no problem with it
