Well, to some fans (like me) there's a huge difference.
As I see it, retirement = "I'm done playing football" while a holdout = "I'm gonna stay home until you give me what I want."
When AD came into the league he said he was going to play 8 years and then retire. And now he has played 8 years. I think he wants to change his mind now that he's tasted a SB win. But I also think he has the right to change his mind on his terms. And if talking up that retirement option works in his favor ... we'll, personally I have no problem with it
AD certainly has the right to retire at any time of his choosing. We both agree on that point.
But let’s don’t be so naïve as to pretend that in this case with this exact timing during contract negotiations that there is no connection. An 8 year old could connect those dots.
Again, it’s legal, but it’s not a real good look for AD, imho.
