If you discovered a painting by Leonardo da Vinci.in your attic and it was appraised for $30M how much would you sell it for. $20M? or $30M?

Well, in today's market AD is worth $30M a year. How much should he get paid?

That’s an oversimplification, AlbaNY.

If AD were a UFA today then maybe we’re talking $30M, but AD is under contract with 3 years left to go. The time for AD to want more money was back in 2018 BEFORE he signed that blockbuster contract, not today.

Moreover, it was a huge contract befitting the best D player in the game. Rams have done right by AD all along. And frankly, Rams have all the leverage here.

Look, if Rams want to massage AD’s ego here with some kind of extension it’s fine by me. But I would consider it a PR move more than anything. And a very poor precedent setter, at that. Let’s don’t forget that Rams have other elites in mid-contract and they’re surely watching developments here very closely. Do we really want to open up an endless early contract renegotiation can of worms in a tight salary cap era?

This current AD/agent strategy is not a good look for him. Kinda makes him look petulant. The time to play hardball contract negotiations is when his current contract is up, imo.

I love AD’s play and other intangibles just as much as anybody else, but I have to frown at this tactic. Too much like extortion. He should man up and honor his already massive contract. Maybe enhance his income with commercial endorsements? I mean, he does work and live in LA after all.

Goodness!

I'm trying to put my finger on why such venom is being directed at Aaron Donald who is simply engaging is the same contractual process as the two other elite players on the team?

I like Matthew Stafford...alot, and think that he's one of the best QB's in the NFL (regardless of if he'd won the Super Bowl or not). But he's not the best player in the league or even the best (or 2nd best) player at his position. He seems to get nicked up a lot and we've experienced "bad Stafford" for at least a quarter of this past regular season. He was also under contract for the 2022 season. This contract will have paid him $135M - more than enough to take care of his family...and family's families. These things didn't prevent the team from completing a 4-year extension for him. Is he any of the things that Donald has been referred as?

Cooper Kupp is coming off a HISTORIC season capped off with a Super Bowl MVP. It simply doesn't get any better than that. But over the past 3 seasons, he's missed several regular season games and multiple playoff games due to injury. And, oh yeah...he recently signed an extension and is still under those terms for two more seasons. Despite this, he and the Rams are engaged in contract negotiations to better reflect his value to the team as it relates to other WR's with lesser talent and/or productivity. I'm all for it (especially if the team is). These negotiations have yet to conclude. Why not? Should I begin a baseless rumor that, although he's showed up for OTA's, he hasn't signed his contract because he's pining for more money? Would you call him any of those things?

Rumors swirled about HC Sean McVay leaving coaching after the Super Bowl for a broadcasting gig. Where did that start? Is he (or his agent) attempting to extort the organization? Has anyone accused him of this?

But Aaron Donald...

There's something different about this sure-fire, 1st ballot HOF'er who's been the undisputed best defensive player of the last few years (and no real discussion of a rival in this regard - sorry JJ Watt) and is really only discussed in terms of THE BEST NFL player overall.

Like Matt Stafford and Cooper Kupp, he too is coming off a Super Bowl winning season where he recorded 3.5 sacks in the playoffs. And though not counted as sacks, he was responsible for 3 of the team's top-4 defensive plays during the playoffs (rag-dolling Jimmy G and forcing the INT; single-handedly stopping Perine on 3rd & 1; and, rag-dolling Burrow forcing the incompletion).

The Rams aren't blind to any more of this than they are with respect to Stafford and Kupp. So what do they do? They entertain contract negotiations even though he's under contract - just like Stafford and Kupp. These negotiations have yet to conclude. They are taking place behind closed doors and out of the media. No comments from the Rams, Donald, or his agent - just like in 2018 (and just how the organization would prefer it).

Yet, he's referred to as a "selfish child." He's the one that has to "man up" and play through his contract?

Why is he getting this haterism while Stafford, Kupp, and McVay escape it?
