In order to attempt to judge this dude as a draft pick you need to go back in time to when and why we drafted him. McVay didn't think we had enough speed on the roster.
So, they signed Desean Jackson, one of the best deep receivers of all time.
DJ was/is still very fast so we wanted to add the next DJ. Now, before DJ totally lost his mind and demanded a trade off a team which later won the SB he was as advertised and had a lot of long snags in his time here.
Okay, so now back to the draft and the second round. Here is Tutu, a kid who just ran a 4.32 with good hands available. Most here, including me, wanted Creed.
And Creed has been great. But, we thought we had no center and apparently we did and do.
McVay saw the chance to draft DJ's future replacement who could learn from his deep pattern mentor.
It's hard to disagree with the decision in this context. But, Tutu was behind a lot of good WRs and wasn't used.
He watched Kupp, Woods, Jefferson and DJ every Sunday.
They tried to make a returner out of him. He may not be one. He had no success and got hurt.
I don't think he was ever going to see a lot of pt last season as the talent in front of him was terrific.
Also, to double down in the draft our Rams drafted Harris who is very tall, weighs more and runs a 4.4 forty. Very, very raw.
He also got hurt. So we lose DJ, Harris, Tutu and Woods. We picked up OBJ.
We still needed a WR so SKOW got his shot and did fair. Now, because Creed was amazing, Tutu got hurt and SKOW got targets Tutu suddenly sucks. He doesn't.
Now, he is stuck behind Kupp (best WR in NFL), Robinson, an All Pro himself, Jefferson who keeps improving and probably OBJ again.
He could see some snaps rotating in with Jefferson primarily as the deep threat until ObJ can play. Harris might get some snaps. Powell who took over the returners role might get snaps too.
We are loaded. As a threat Tutu is the fastest guy in the team.
He has great hands. He was a second-round pick. All good things. He is also tiny. My 17-year-old daughter is his size.
And she is not going to play in the NFL anytime soon. I get it.
He needs to bulk up a bit. He needs to know the playbook. He needs to be ready. He should beg Kupp to work out with him.
He needs to eat with the big uglies.
I can't really see a way he doesn't make the team unless he comes in with a bad 'tude. McVay has a plan for him. That's enough for me.
