Do some people think the Rams picked Atwell's name out of a fish bowl on draft night? Good grief, the Rams knew EXACTLY what Tutu was, and they were absolutely thrilled to have him on the team.
When the Rams picked up DJax last year, that meant that Atwell was always going to have a red shirt year playing behind Jackson. Its unfortunate that he got hurt right when Jackson left, but here's a news flash - a lot of the Rams rookies got hurt. So did Akers, and a bunch of non-rookies too. It doesn't mean any of them are injury prone or useless, just that they got hurt.
If you go back and watch the preseason games, the Rams used Atwell a lot in short routes, crossing and misdirection routes, etc. And guess what, he got open and he showed great hands. I suspect they intentionally didn't sent him on any deep routes, saving it for the regular season. But what he showed when he played (notwithstanding people's bias against his frame) was that he could get open and has very good hands.
Some people who show such unwavering faith in Snead and McVay in everything Rams think they just used their most prized draft asset on a nobody?? Really? Put your wannabe NFL GM hat down for a half sec and let the kid show what he can do before you cut him after a few weeks of play <eye roll emoji>. He's a really good player who can change defenses and create other mismatches, and McVay knows this.
