If they did you would have 6 teams play in the wild card weekend and then you'd have 5 teams left in the Division round. Now what?

If they did add yet another wild card team then all 8 teams would play in first round and no one would get a bye.

I think the OP’s point is that maybe there should be no byes because the advantages are largely unearned and disproportionate.

Can’t say that I disagree.
