I think the OP’s point is that maybe there should be no byes because the advantages are largely unearned and disproportionate.
Can’t say that I disagree.
That is a correct way of expressing my point. It wasn't so bad when two teams in each conference got byes. When only one team gets a bye, that team gets a clear advantage over every other team in the conference for getting to the Super Bowl.
