I like Jefferson plenty, and think perhaps he's under utilized.
But rotating in the rookie would certainly point to a run play or allow you, as a defensive coordinator, to roll your better coverage towards the other veteran WRs.
That Stafford got the ball in his hands had to have frustrated the DC there in Baltimore. It ended up being a nice gain.
Yeah Jefferson is a really interesting player. He gets open a lot. But he doesn't seem to be the guy the QB notices. And that goes back to college I think where I ask myself "if he's such a great route runner, which he definitely is, how is he not lighting teams up?" I didn't nuke their film btw, don't have time for that, but I seem to recall wondering why he wasn't more of a factor even though I knew his QB was terrible.
There's a lot of stuff out there written about him on the fantasy side and whatnot that backs up what I've always thought, which is that he's a guy who was projected to be better with an accurate pro QB. But maybe at some point you just get guys who aren't high producers. And maybe with him it has to do with some other elements in his game like aggressiveness to the ball and catch radius.
So for me, I'm rooting for him of course, but at the same time I am enjoying the elements Skow bring, to include good aggressive hands to the ball and catch radius. Also I am wondering still as I have been for a while now whether the evaluational importance of catch radius and aggression to the ball doesn't change in future drafts. Because judging from prioritization of Tutu they are not considering the QB in our offense and what's ideal for him, but rather what was explosive and threatening in scheme. Maybe after this run is over we see a change there.
