Was talking with my son about the players the Rams will try to keep versus the ones they'll almost certainly let walk. We didn't entirely agree.
Here's what I think and I'd love to hear what some of y'all think about it.
Leaving: Von Miller. He was brought in to win a Superbowl this year. But the price to keep him will just be too high. He's simply not a star player any longer although he is a very good player. Just the type of player some team way overpays and then in a year or so wishes they wouldn't have.
Brian Allen: Shelton has proven he can handle the position.
Sony Michel: He's playing so well some goofy team is going to offer him too much. I think the play for the Rams is NEVER to offer a RB a lucrative 2nd contract. The risk is just too high. RBs wear out fast!
Ashawn Robinson: Similar to Brockers; too much for the position so not worth the big bucks.
SJD: Iffy here. Missing so much of the year is going to knock down his value. But I still think it'll be more than the Rams can pay. The emergence of Gaines changes the paradigm.
Staying: Corbett: really a good physical Guard that stays healthy. Those are getting hard to come by. He'd provide great stability to the interior line.
Bubble: Noteboom: A lot depends on if Whit stays. Is he worth a middle of the road LT deal (4 years $40 mil)? Probably. Would the Rams find a way to do that? Probably.
Whitworth: Likely to retire. Or, Whit and the Rams will decide on one more year based on the Rams' ability to resign Noteboom.
D. Williams: I think the Rams would pay him maybe 4 years $30 million backloaded and maybe the first year or 2 guaranteed. But if he costs any more, then he walks.
The Rams can get awfully creative to provide more cap room, so I would never say never to Von Miller.
