Reeder and Rapp arent good at zone coverage, and a match up zone is different from zone but only because it requires players to understand their area and those who come into it to match up with them, as I mentioned in my post, Reeder and Rapp stare at the QB and fall victim to his eyes and are simply not good at knowing who or what or where players are around them.
They are picked on week in and week out and it's disgusting and tiring, it's easy to say they should play Morris's scheme but what if they cant? Reeder and Rapp cant right now, isn't it the coach's job to match scheme and game plan to the team they are playing and the players you have? If Rapp and Reeder cant play the scheme then get them off the field and play someone else and keep doing that until you find someone who can do it or at least do it at a passable level.
I can sit in my living room watching the game on tv and based on alignment and where guys are I can tell my wife with pretty high accuracy where the ball is going and what will happen. I am right way to often in a bad way for the Rams..if I can do that imagine what a good team and good coach and great QB like Rogers can figure out?
One mistake coaches make over and over and over again is forcing schemes on players, when it should be fitting the scheme to the players you have. Morris isn't doing that.
I saw you mention pass rush in another thread, if Donald isn't creating pressure and Miller and Floyd arent as well and you have Reeder and Rapp consistently blowing coverages and missing tackles then your scheme is going to fail which is currently is.
I don't need to say the Rams O isn't helping because it clearly isn't, the mistakes they are making are killing this team. Two lost fumbles and a pick-six and a QB fumble along with the 4th down failure doomed this team yesterday not the defense.
But since we are talking about D and zones and pass rush ill stick to that.
Morris isn't earning his money, you can't force a scheme on players when you do and it doesn't work either you change the players or you change the plan if you do neither then you're stealing your paycheck.
Clearly, if they can get pass rush with what they have then you need to get creative and add things to get pressure, blitz, move guys around, and create matchups. Find something your team and players can do well and stick with it. Don't find things they can't do and keep doing them because it's a recipe for failure. TOP 40 minutes to 20 is a perfect reflection of a team who can't get off the field and on O who can't hang onto the ball.
You can't beat Rogers and the Packers turning the ball over three times and getting stuffed on 4th down and you can't let them start the game with an 8 minute TD drive and then start the second half with another 8-minute drive, you just aren't going to win.
The Rams cant play Morris's scheme, its either too complicated which I see at times when they are scrambling around just trying to get lined up when the O is getting ready to snap the ball or the player's arent the right types of players to play it. Either way it's the coach's job to find the right players or the best players and create his scheme to match the talent he does have. You can't just put your scheme out there and hand out playbooks and watch the team fail to get three and outs and fail to get pass rush and fail to cover their zone and fail to tackle and fail to match up in their zone and fail to get turnovers and expect it to change.
Reeder is what he is, Rapp is who he is and so are the other players on the D. Morris can either stick with what this is currently and well continue to watch teams play keep away from us or he will change out some players and get others on the field and change up his scheme and game plan to fit who they play and who they have out on the field or the Rams are destined for about ten or eleven wins tops and an early exit in the playoffs of the "Were all in" season....what an embarrassment that sounds like right now.
I hated it when I saw it on social media and I hate it even more now. When they said it, I just couldn't believe the arrogance of it and the pressure that put on the team to get it done and then the target it put squarely on the player's backs, in the NFL it's hard enough to win you don't need to give other teams any more reason to want to kick your butt then they already have.....The Rams are the picture of a spoiled brat team right now and the bully is taking their lunch money every single Sunday.
