But the measure is whether a D-coordinator thinks the run game is enough of a threat that he has to start stacking the box. I don’t think Joe Barry felt that at all because Stafford was still flustered sufficiently in finding open receivers that the passing game was hit and miss. If the defensive backfield is crowded, I can understand how Stafford is flustered.
How to solve that traffic jam on the backend? Be a running threat.
Basically, all McVay has to do is copy Shanahan to get his run game sea legs under him.
He’s trying to take on a teams’ strength with half of a play book. Of course he’s failing.
And that in turn will help his defense. Maybe not adjust the attitude completely, but at least give them a breather.
