Means opposing defenses don’t have to respect and game plan for a run game.
If McVay is looking at the run game as something that is slowing him down (which he intimated recently), he’s clueless about what the lack of run game is doing to his team.
The problem is this team is SOFT in the main. Not all players, but most are soft. How many times did I see a Packer running back get stopped after a two yard gain and then there was no back support or gang tackling and the running back proceeded to move the pile for four more yards?
If you’re practicing the run game in practice, then your defense is practicing stopping the run game.
Further, you get your offensive line to buy in. No lineman wants to drop back in protection all day.
Here’s another showing of McVay’s hand in his neglect of the run game. He could have drafter A. J. Dillon instead of Tutu who went 5 picks ahead of him.
I hope McVay is feeling the pressure because pressure is the only thing that can wake him up to the reality that is the toughness of football. This is not Madden 2022.
