Something else that has to be considered is what Staley inherited vs. what Morris inherited. While the strength of opponent record may look harder, I think that is offset by Morris being handed the #1 defense in football. Probably unfair to ask him to maintain the #1 ranking but the Rams have dropped to 27th. I don't think that is explained by losing Johnnie Johnson.
