At least Morris has started tweaking his version of the Staley D by sitting Long and starting Rochell. That took some guts because he knew Rochell was gonna be learning on the job. I’ve gotta give him that. Maybe he could have adjusted a game or 2 sooner by phasing Rochell in as I believe Staley would have but better late than never.
I applaud that decision.
I hope he plans to rethink Rapp as starting Safety. Rapp can be valuable as a hybrid LB but is a square peg in a round hole at Safety. This will take some guts, too, but players with better instincts must be available to start ahead of Rapp back there. Burgess, Hughes, Reed, or ???
Also I would revert to Ramsey taking away opponents best weapon. It’s the best use of his immense talent. Unleash DW while we’re at it. Allow him to once again be that aggressive ball hawking defender. Allow him to play to his strengths, iow. Reduce that cushion we’re giving every QB that plays us, dammit!
Lastly, I would recommend giving Garrett a few snaps at Edge. Better outside pressure is always a good thing. Let’s see what this kid can do, especially while Hollins is out.
