As sexy as the Bears 46 blitzing defense was, think about how few teams have run it since. The zone blitz was hot for a minute but faded from view however teams still largely use the passive Tampa Two, while the Bear defense and the zone blitz is very rarely if ever seen, maybe the dolphins.
they take elements of the 46---the front--in fact, Rams play that--the "TITE" front. ZOne blitz are used some--Vita Vea has even done it--but you're right no one relies on any one scheme---
Staley likes to play off...and play 4-deep of 3 deep and relies and guys making breaks on the ball---undercutting routes--and rotating one of the safeties from a cover-2 presnap look to a middle of the field, lurk-guy
I do think people need to consider that things can sometimes have a domino effect. lose Johnson and everyone moves up, weakening all 3 safety positions.
Have we replaced Brockers? Not really. Fox? No. Young is better than Kiser, I guess, but neither are anything special. Hill being gone move Hill up in the depth chart
So, maybe only 1 or 2 of them are a problem, maybe 3-4, I don't know. But if the scheme is the same, maybe a bit simpler your the young guys---maybe the newer guys ust are not as good and in a game of inches it makes a big difference in a completion or a deflection
