chico n da rams
Jim, don't know if your earlier comments were directed at me, but I'll take a stab at your question;
My eyes tell me we are playing more passively in the secondary. It may well be Staley's scheme, but it seems (comparatively) passive. I can't say for sure, but doesn't look like we are disguising our defensive looks as well as last year.
In terms of personel, I don't see a big drop off from Brockers. I do see a drop off from Johnny Johnson. Just my opinion.
Same thing I'm seeing. Just because the scheme is the same, doesn't mean that it's being implemented as effectively. The way Morris is calling the games is obviously different considering so many people feel that it's an entirely different scheme because of it.
Even the analysts are wondering why the Rams are employing a "bend but don't break" approach and the Rams are denying it, saying that it's more about playing the odds. Keeping things in front of them and forcing the opposition to consistently run 12 play drives without making errors, assuming that they will capitalize when a mistake is ultimately made.
But that all boils down to our defense reacting instead of dictating and that is classic bend but don't break. Which is a cumulative strain on the defense and a hindrance to the offense getting into rhythm when they have to continually sit on the sidelines.
I'm not a fan of this approach at all and it's allowing teams that we should be dominating to stay competitive with us.
