A friend of mine and I flew out to LA today. He's a Charger fan and we're going to the Rams-Cards game on Sunday and then going to the Chargers-Raiders game on Monday night.
The guy sitting behind me on the plane was wearing an 'NFL Alumni' shirt so I knew right away that he was a former player, but I figured I wouldn't bother him. But then as we're getting ready to deplane he put on 4 *huge* rings so it was obvious that he wasn't trying to keep a low profile and I asked him who he was.
He said "I'm just an old football player".
So I asked him who he played for. And he replied "Dallas, the Rams ..: "
And I interrupted him right there and told him that if he played for the Rams I probably knew who he was.
He replied "Rolland Williams".
I said "Yeah, you played TE for the Rams. My buddy and I are flying in from Albany, NY to see the game."
Roland: "Man, you must really be a fan".
Me: "You know it". And then my quirky memory kicked in ..."You were #86, weren't you."
Roland, to all the passengers around us: "Now here's a real Rams fan!!"
And then he let me take this photo.
