McVay definitely dialed things back. But players matter. When you have a QB who is struggling you're pretty much back to building him up with higher percentage passes and more schemed throws underneath, which is what we saw.
Goff was definitely a problem.
Receiver quality and matchups were also a problem. Rams went from three deep in being able to challenge DBs to two deep. Reynolds was straight garbage. Everett was garbage too. We lacked that third heat for getting open and Goff simply doesn't read well enough or fast enough or see enough to consistently get to the fourth read or the backside swing pass on some plays that was actually there.
And then you have Blythe. Who was the worst player on the field for us. This is why he's gone. He killed some great opportunities in the pass game. He killed some great opportunities in the outside zone run game. The guy was terrible. Over and over on the film you see his assignment making a difference. Him being gone is a big upgrade. Ironically and btw, I believe the reason he was kept in there at Center vice juggling the OL was because Goff needed help reading the threats at the LOS. That won't be a problem now and Corbett has time to learn snapping to a vet QB who understands protections.
