Speaking about Goff in terms that denigrate him as a person or teammate is wrong. Not remembering that the Rams did have success with him for 2 years, is also wrong and disrespectful. But... to talk about his on field performance as being on a downward trend... something that is backed up with stats, losses versus wins, and just plain watching him play, isn't being disrespectful.
Sure, it's too early into preseason for anyone to be raining on Goff's parade. But how much of what is being reported is fact? It appears that even Goff is admitting that he's struggling. It's one thing to struggle a bit with adapting to a new O and some new players. It's quite another to struggle with game fundamentals in your 6th year as full time starter.
Let's face it; fumbles and INTs and inconsistent play and accuracy became the problem. All of us were asking why the Check Down Charley, Sam Bradford like, offense? And clearly that IS NOT what McVay drew up; it is how Goff executed it.
We can all speculate on exactly what the cause of this was. But now, the past is the past for Goff. If it was McVay not being nice to Goff, or giving Goff too much to handle, or bad play calling then it ought to be entirely different in Detroit.
Will it be? We really won't know until a few games into the regular season. But, it may just be that at the moment, anyway, Goff isn't giving anyone in Detroit reason for optimism. And it's not disrespectful to notice it or say it.
