To me it seemed CJ made the TG3 situation worse. While McSneed were doing everything they could to placate their sour franchise running back, by flooding the air with no comments and Todd is just fine responses. CJ let it slip that Todd's knee was waaaay worse than all the other Rams were letting on. Hindsight it was obvious but at the time the Rams were trying to win a Super Bowl and CJ's loose lips didn't help the situation at all. It didn't help the situation at all at the time and it is obvious by them not even attempting to bring him back it wasn't appreciated. It was more PR hell than it was on field related, because while CJ was never near peak Todd he was good enough that year to get us to the promised land. There is no way to know if the Todd divorce could have ended better sans CJ's comments but it no doubt didn't help the situation.
I guess I wasn't paying attention back then to what was being said and all that. What annoys me though is how McVay doesn't seem to realize how good this offense looked with that power back threat. His clear preference for speed trumps any recognition he might have of that.
What I suspect the plan is right now is to run a little bit more power/duo when teams want to load the LOS with those 6-1 type looks. But I don't think teams are going to do that, simply because Stafford will kill them when/if they do. So in a roundabout way I think the expectation is greater threat from the QB position will prevent teams from selling out to stop the run.
But I still feel like a power back would put this offense in a great place. Ah well.
