I don't think the Rams put that claim in on Gaillard because they were looking for a starter at center, but rather they just wanted to kick the tires on him (at no cost) just to see if he was a better depth guy than someone already on the roster.
A center at 57 would have been a stating-quality center - and that's not what the Rams are shopping for.
