Historical context for RB Achilles injury can be tricky

July 21, 2021 06:08AM
One of the problems with running backs who suffer an Achilles Tendon injury is that the team often finds just as much productivity with their next man up. Many of the running backs who did go down to injury did so on offenses with a strong running game.

The problem with tracing individual players is that the team often tapped the next guy on the roster, and he did very well. So when the former starter returned, his spot was already claimed. Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack suffered an Achilles Tendon tear, but his replacement, Jonathan Taylor, claimed the role and never looked back...

The Rams may be fine in their running game, but Cam Akers has a huge climb to return as their starting feature back is what I get out of looking at the historical context.

We learned when Gurley was hurt - Rams need a rusher to make play action work
