Re: I'm skeptical they'll be able to get away with that....

They can get through this tricky cap situation IF they don't try to spend wildly again in 2022. Along with that comes Whitworth retiring. And as far as restructuring, I agree. Restructure who? Who's left?... They have to cross their fingers as it is that Woods, Kupp, Donald, and Ramsey all remain really good through 2023.

They will have somewhat more (cap) breathing room in 2022. Somewhat.. But it's likely another year where maybe one of their UFA gets re-signed (SJD or Corbett?) while Williams leaves and very few outsiders come in.

Keep drafting and developing well. Period. They will have 11 Draft picks in 2022 to work with.

They have a lot of free agents to deal with:

Corbett
SJD
Williams
Reeder (RFA)
Kiser
Howard (RFA)
Young
Matt Gay
Oko
Noteboom
Brewer (ERFA)
Allen
Shelton (RFA)

I don't know how they'd be able to get away with signing just one of the above. Almost all of their ILBs are entering some type of free agency; they can't lose them all as that would be very bad for continuity. The RFAs are easier to retain than the UFAs but they still will cost more than their 2021 salaries.

They'll need to sign Matt Gay or else they're looking for another kicker which didn't work well last time.

They also can't count on Whit retiring. Chances are he plays out his contract again.

As things stand, if Whit doesn't retire and they cut/trade Hav and Robinson, they only have $8M to work with prior to signing any free agent or draft picks. That's not enough.

IMO, it's a near certainty that they will have to do another round of restructures. Same players as this year but maybe not as extensively. Maybe they just do Donald and Ramsey or something like that but I doubt they will be able to escape without pushing more salary into 2023-2025.

I can see why you'd be concerned. But a little optimism for me comes from the projected 2023 cap
