I mean, yes... I'm aboard, McVay is a great coach. But even so I had an uneasy feeling this last year that he wasn't 'at his best'. Which happens... to all coaches, but I couldn't help but wonder 'why' that was so, if indeed it was.
I like to think the McVay does the best possible with what he has, but if he didn't last year.... welllll, you see what I mean.
I worry too much. - JamesJM
I'm sure he does do the best possible with what he has but he's still a young coach that is developing. If he wasn't extraordinary last year, don't worry. The man is still in his mid-30s! A learning curve was always expected.
My take on McVay in 2019 was that he was such a good coach, he got to a superbowl before he was ready. Some issues showed up in 2020 too. He had a lot of issues last year. Not huge ones, but some. This is one reason I keep stressing that I think Stafford will be good for McVay. In some ways, Stafford knows more about the game, or at least playing qb, than the coach does. My bet is he learns a lot from that. And also that he will learn a lot from reflecting on 2020.
