Just like we all thought.
McVay and Snead did not draft OLINE or "C"....They already had a PLAN A.
For 2021.
The issue was always 2022. And no plan for just 2021 covers 2022.
That is, the people you have been seeing who criticize the lack of OL in this draft were NOT complaining about 2021. That's not the issue.
In 2022, Whitworth is 41 and both Noteboom and Corbett are free agents. The problem then will be finding starters and depth at both center and left tackle. When it comes to left OT, draft picks after round 1 rarely work out, there are seldom free agents at the position (that is it's not something you can count on), and trades at the position are expensive (when there is someone up for a trade--that's not something you count on either). So if Noteboom does not work out, they will be chasing a starter at a position where it's famously hard to find good starters.
They lucked out in 2017 because the Bengals screwed up and let AW walk. They could luck out again, but again that's not something you count on.
2021 was always going to be easy. It's basically the same OL and they just moved up depth. They will not be in the same position in 2022. It's not going to be that simple.
