They run a pro style offense. He has actually been under center. He was required to read a defense. The Bison have an amazing QB coach that has sent a few QBs to the CFL and Wentz and Stick to the NFL and now Lance. Thats not by accident or mediocre FCS coaching. They run their program like a Big 10 or SEC program. The last 2 HCs are coaching Wyoming and Kansas State.
I'd say Lance is more pro ready than Goff was coming out. Regardless of starts. I think you underestimate the program he comes from. Its not Florida, its not Alabama, its not Clemson, but they do a good job. And if you ever asked what scouts think of what kind of job NDSU does with their prospects, they'd say a good a job as any FBS school. And I have heard that, on NFL radio, from guys that have forgotten more about football than I'll ever know.
But I don't think you dislike Lance or NDSU, I think you don't like the new style QB and prefer the pocket passers. I obviously don't. If Trask is ever better than Drew Lock, I'd be absolutely shocked, and Lock is near the end of his rope. I think Jones could be a high end game manager in the right situation, and that situation is SF, but I doubt he is ever considered a year in and year out pro bowler.
Anyhow, good discussion. Would be fun to revisit this in 3 or 4 years. Because regardless of how 2021 shakes out, Trask, Lance and Jones all probably get a redshirt season. And there is nothing wrong with that.
