Deadpool's 2021 Big Board

April 19, 2021 11:38AM
My 2021 200 player Big Board

A few notes before I get to the list:

1. I have seen every player. Some guys I have only seen in the Senior Bowl. Others I have seen a ton. So my grading is not perfect.

2. This is a board built from a scoring system and not where I think they will land in the draft. That is a predictive board.

3. I simplified my scoring again, so players are grouped more in clumps so if you see a player at 47, he could in theory be slotted 38th to say 56th, its a little more subjective, or basically where I feel they belong. Its more organic I guess?

4. I summarized each player to give you an idea of their strengths and weaknesses, if you see one with too many comments one way or the other, it doesn't mean he should be higher or lower.

5. Covid - as far as scouting goes, it was/is a mess. There were opt outs, and on top of opt outs, some had injuries in '19, then opted out so some haven't seen the field in almost 2 years. Some teams had a partial schedule, the FCS went to a spring schedule. Div. III totally cancelled their season. So games were harder to find and there was simply less film to see. On top of that, no shrine game, only the Senior Bowl, so the lesser knowns or day 3 guys didn't have a showcase week or game. Lastly, no combine and less access to the pro days. I'm not a huge Combine and Pro day guy, but they do have their usefulness, esp their weight and heights. Some of the drills are handy. As far as pro days, again, similar to the combine, but less trustworthy esp concerning 40 times. Some of these reports or player evals. were done before the pro days, and the ones that weren't I didn't over react to some crazy workout like Jaelan Phillips. And due to all of the above, evals are going to be all over the place. So keep that in mind when a guy you see on so and so's board gets drafted 50 spots sooner than where he had the prospect. I know I am higher on Jamar Johnson than most, I also know I am probably way too low on Davis Mills or even a guy like Elijah Moore or Tyson Campbell.

6. I stopped at 200 players, I have plenty more, just not in a precise order and not typed out in a condensed 2 sentence breakdown. 200 puts you basically at the end of 5th round and frankly, once you get to the back half of the 3rd day, it is a total crapshoot and lists mean absolutely nothing. Its all about fit and filling holes and taking chances on upside guys. Or adding special teamers. If asked for, I would be willing to build a vertically stacked Rams board.

7. ask any questions you like.

1. Trevor Lawrence - QB - Clemson - 6'-6" 213 lbs. - Excellent athlete, good judgement in the pocket, makes progressions, very good accuracy to all levels. very good mechanics. More than enough arm strength for all NFL throws. Won't wow you with his speed, but a tough and willing runner. Best QB I have seen since Andrew Luck.

2. Penei Sewell - OT - Oregon - 6'-5" 325 lbs. - Opt out, was my #1 OT last year and no one did enough to unseat him. Big, quick, smooth and powerful. A 10 year starting LT. No real holes in his game.

3. Kyle Pitts - TE - Florida - 6'-5" 245 lbs. - A rare athlete for the position. An extreme matchup problem anywhere on the field. Great hands. Can win at all three levels. Not a blocker. Receiving TE from anywhere.

4. Micah Parsons - LB - Penn State - 6'-2" 245 lbs. - 2020 opt out. My #1 LBer coming into the season. Top notch athlete, sideline to sideline range that hits, blitzes and can really change a game. Character Red Flags. ILB 43/34

5. Ja'Marr Chase - WR - LSU - 6'-1" 205 lbs. - Opt out. Great size and speed. Great hands. 50-50 ball hawk and excellent at going up and getting footballs. Your go to WR when you absolutely need a catch. #1 WR

6. Patrick Surtain II - CB - Alabama - 6'-2" 202 lbs. - Great size/length. Physical with WRs at the LoS. Willing tackler. Good athlete that plays under control. Lots of nuance to his game. Outside CB.

7. Jaylen Waddle - WR - Alabama - 5'-10" 185 lbs. - Game altering speed. Elusive, fluid with good hands. Scary in the open field. Has played all over the field. Slot WR with some outside work.

8. Zac Wilson - QB - BYU - 6'-3" 210 lbs. - Effortless, quick release. Howitzer for an arm. Good athlete inside and outside of the pocket, but not a "running QB". Makes reads but is a bit of a gunslinger, goes through progressions. Accuracy is good.

9. Caleb Farley - CB - Virginia Tech - 6'-2" 195 lbs. - A beast as a press man CB. Smart and calm, he just plays like a shutdown CB. I wished he was a more willing tackler in the games I saw. Outside CB

10. Jaelan Phillips - Edge - Miami - 6'-5" 260 lbs. - Super athletic, quick, and a loose frame. He is a menace off the edge. Could be stronger at the point of attack. 34 OLB or maybe a 43 DE.

11. Christian Darrisaw - OT - Virginia Tech - 6'-5" 315 lbs. - Size, quickness, smooth and strong. I think Sewell is stronger, but Darrisaw is a longterm LT prospect with a neddle pointing up.

12. Justin Fields - QB - Ohio State - 6'-3" 220 lbs. - Dynamic athlete outside the pocket. Excellent arm strength with a nice release. Accuracy comes and goes, but has gotten better. A one read QB at this point, but has made progressions. Prototypical new age QB.

13. Jaycee Horn - CB - South Carolina - 6'-1" 205 lbs. - Absolute elite cover skills from any coverage. Good ball skills. You are not drafting him for his tackling prowless. Outside CB

14. Kwity Paye - Edge - Michigan - 6'-4" 270 lbs. - Good athlete, love his power and his ability to win with his hands. Can play the run and the pass. Clean up some technique and he could be a monster. 43 DE

15. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah - LB - Notre Dame - 6'-2" 216 lbs. - Plays and hits like he is 245 lbs. Sideline to sideline, a good blitzer and great in coverage. Not a stack and shed MLBer. 43 WLB/ maybe a 34 ILB

16. Trey Lance - QB - NDSU - 6'-3" 225 lbs. - Another dynamic athlete/runner that comes from a pro style offense. Good accuracy, making progressions is a work in progress. but has done it. Excellent arm strength and a nice delivery. Developmental starter due to 19 career starts at FCS level.

17. Devonta Smith - WR - Alabama - 6'-0" 175 lbs. - HR speed, super elusive with a rare suddenness to his game. Can play inside and out, his lean frame makes him a prime candidate for the slot for clean releases.

18. Gregory Rousseau - Edge - Miami - 6'-6" 266 lbs. - 2020 opt out, smooth with a nice burst. He needs to add strength to his long frame to handle run duties, but he has all the physical tools. 43 DE

19. Alijah Vera-Tucker - OG - USC - 6'-4" 300 lbs. - LT for the Trojans, he lacks the size to be an OT in the NFL. Smooth mover with a good anchor. Good power. A perfect LG for a zone blocking team.

20. Jalen Mayfield - OT - Michigan - 6'-5" 320 lbs. - a somewhat raw RT, Crazy power with really good balance and good mobility. Needs some refinement in technique, but thats to be expected. RT/LT/OG prospect.

21. Rashawn Slater - OT - Northwestern - 6'-4" 315 lbs. - His 32 3/4" arms make me think he is more a OG prospect than a OT prospect. Regardless, he handled Chase Young in '19. Another good strength/athletic OL prospect that should be a 10 year starter wherever you want him.

22. Rashod Bateman - WR - Minnesota - 6'-2" 210 lbs. - Excellent route runner with excellent pace. Great hands and a 50/50 winner. Decent speed, but not a burner. Will win with route running and size over speed. #1 WR

23. Azeez Ojulari - Edge - Georgia - 6'-3" 240 lbs. - Great athlete with a big time motor, can rush and defend the run. Could stand to use some more good weight. 34 WOLB

24. Wyatt Davis - OG - Ohio State - 6'-4" 310 lbs. - A mack truck in the run game, he's looking to put you in the ground. Decent movement skills and a good pass set. Can improve on some technique, but he's a day one starter at OG.

25. Terrance Marshall Jr . - WR - LSU - 6'-3" 200 lbs. - Quick and fast, fluid WR with good hands that can beat you deep, over the middle or shallow and eat you up. Will go up and get it. Has played inside/outside. #1 or #2 WR that can play from anywhere.

26. Trevon Moehrig - S - TCU - 6'-1" 208 lbs. - Very fluid and athletic safety that plays aggressively. Impressive ball skills and can play in the box and hit.

27. Travis Etienne - RB - Clemson - 5'-10" 210 lbs. - Explosive athlete with HR speed. Good route runner with reliable hands. Elusive and shifty with excellent feet/balance. No fumble issues. Lacks the bulk to push a pile, but can run inside effectively. Not a pass blocker right now.

28. Zaven Collins - LB - Tulsa - 6'-4" 260 lbs. - For his size, he is a flexible, smooth athlete with range. Can stack and shed, can blitz, and drop into zone coverage. 1 year of great production. Up arrow. 43 SLB/MLB or anywhere in a 34

29. Mac Jones - QB - Alabama - 6'-3" 213 lbs. - Average athlete that won't beat you with his legs. Average arm with a decent release. Smart, goes through progressions, understands the defense he is seeing. Can really climb and slide inside the pocket to find throwing lanes and buy time. Long story short: Excellent head with an average body.

30. Jayson Oweh - Edge - Penn State - 6'-5" 260 lbs. - 20 college starts, so raw, but eye popping athleticism. He is flexible. Real nice get off at the snap. Real nice motor. Needs work as a run defender. 34 OLB

31. Eric Stokes - CB - Georgia - 6'-1" 185 lbs. - Speed to burn, good ball production, a willing tackler. Ok athlete in spite of his speed. Outside CB

32. Kadarius Toney - WR - Florida - 5'-11" 190 lbs. - Good speed, with a twitchy body that makes him dangerous with the ball in his hands. Tough for his size. Return specialist. Slot WR that can move around some.

33. Najee Harris - RB - Alabama - 6'-2" 230 lbs. - A battering ram with power to spare, surprisingly nimble for his size. Good vision, durable and a very good receiving option out of the backfield. Not a HR threat, but can break off chunk plays.

34. Levi Onwuzurike- DT - Washington - 6'-3" 290 lbs. - My clear cut #1 DT, he is explosive off the snap. Has the power to handle double teams, and is a handful when left one on one. Needs to work on his pass rush arsenal. 3 tech.

35. Greg Newsome II - CB - Northwestern - 6'-1" 190 lbs. - Smooth for his size, will compete on every play and is physical. 1 int his entire career. Underrated. Injury red flags. Outside CB

36. Jamin Davis - LB - Kentucky - 6'-4" 225 lbs. - Sideline to sideline guy with freakish athleticism, good power and very good in coverage. Run defense is best from a backside pursuit position. Lacks a ton of experience. 43 WLB/34 ILB

37. Dillon Radunz - OT - NDSU - 6'-5" 305 lbs. - Smooth mover with enough power to handle bull rushes. Could use some weight/strength for the NFL. Showed at the Senior Bowl he can play OG or OT.

40. Christian Barmore - DT - Alabama - 6'-5" 310 lbs. - Explosive and smooth. Arrow is pointing up. For as big as he is, he seems to need to add strength. 2 tech

41. Rondale Moore - WR - Purdue - 5'-9" 175 lbs. - Super electric, HR speed. Return specialist. Smaller frame and has extensice injury history. When healthy, must be accounted for. Slot WR

42. Baron Browning - LB - Ohio State - 6'-3" 240 lbs. - Fast. Versatile (played all over) Good blitzer, plenty of range. Matches up with TEs well. OLB 43/ ILB 34

43. Liam Eichenburg - OT - Notre Dame - 6'-5" 305 lbs. - Good size (could use some weight) and lots of power. He is an OK athlete and can climb to the 2nd level and get after LBers but he lacks quickness that allows speed rushers to give him an issue now and again. LT prospect.

44. Joseph Ossai - Edge - Texas - 6'-3" 245 lbs. - Nice quickness, really athletic with a good pass rush game. High rev motor. Needs to get stronger to handle run defense. 34 OLB

45. Teven Jenkins - OT - Oklahoma State - 6'-6" 315 lbs. - Played OG and OT. OK athlete, but a guy I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. He will beat you up for 60 minutes. Opted out halfway thru the season with a back issue. RT is his best spot.

50. Kyle Trask - QB - Florida - 6'-5" 240 lbs. - Sturdy pocket passer with an average arm, good accuracy to all levels and makes good reads and progressions. A career backup from HS all the way up until the last season and a half, will needs some developing. Not a runner at all, but works well inside the pocket.

51. Nico Collins - WR - Michigan - 6'-4" 215 lbs. - #2 WR. Nice Size/speed combo that can win 50/50, over the top or deep. Good hands. Lack of production and opted out. #2 WR

52. Landon Dickerson - OC - Alabama - 6'-6" 326 lbs. - Power blocking team leader that can make all the calls, literally played all 5 spots for the Tide. Best suited as an interior blocker due to average athleticism. OC for a power blocking team. Multiple injury red flags.

66. Ronnie Perkins - Edge - Oklahoma - 6'-3" 250 lbs. - Powerful with great hands, not the most fluid athlete, he can make plays all over. Great motor. 34 OLB maybe a 43 end with weight gain.

67. Quinn Meinerz - IL - Wisconsin Whitewater - 6'-3" 320 lbs. - OG that learned OC during the pandemic, he is a decent mover, but can get a bit lungey in space. Crazy power and looks to hit anything until the whistle. Best fit as a OC in any blocking scheme.
