43 speaks of evolution and I agree heartily..... especially the part of having been a Ram fan for so long (for me it's for about the same length of time), and never feeling so confident about those running the show.
I don't think we'll see the Rams EVER be in rebuild-next-year mode. It's simply not how Snead or McVay role. Neither are patient enough nor satisfied enough with a so-so team even if it usually makes the playoffs. Their goal is Championships or bust.
The Stafford/Goff deal is a prime example. Goff was not a bad QB. He could probably have improved several teams. But.... middle of the pack with some upside is not good enough for the current regime and when they had the opportunity to make a bold move to improve (in their opinion), they struck fast and spent whatever it took. They did the same with Ramsey; they knew ahead of time that 2 1's only bought them the opportunity to have Ramsey beyond a year. And, they were willing to pony up market value when the bill became due.
Nothing is ever guaranteed. Nobody knows FOR SURE that the Stafford thing will elevate the Rams. On paper, it should. But paper is fantasy football, not real games. Snead and McVay put their reputations if not their heads on the line to do this...... so they truly believe in it, and are betting large. I like that. Even if it doesn't quite pan out. And that's because if it doesn't, they'll make another bold move.
I'm truly thrilled about the Snead - McVay team and I understand that not every move will strike gold. That's just not real life.
