I actually thought of what you brought up. Look, the rule can't force a guy to stay and I guess if a team wanted to pay more than the market value to keep the player, that would be their choice. But, neither the team nor the player is forced into this. I'm not saying that a player must accept the offer. But, one would think if 50% of that homegrown player's salary counted against the cap, then the team could always pay market value or maybe a bit more to keep the homegrown stars. And, I don't think if something like this were put into play it should just be for a couple years as a COVID profit loss thing. It's should be a part of upcoming bargaining agreement for the entire length of the agreement.
