Carolina offered the 8th pick. Detroit already had the 7th. With picks 7 and 8 the Lions could have taken any number of qbs. They turned that down.
Meanwhile the Lions did want Goff. Their GM is the Rams former chief scout and he played a big role in drafting Goff in 2016. He was with the Rams for the last 5 years and knows all about Goff.

The fact that Carolina offered the 8th pick and they turned it down is pretty significant to me. It does show that Goff had some value to them.
But it also sounds like we had to pay a premium for them to take the contract and no other team was interested in him.
IMO, that does establish that Goff's value around the league was not commensurate with his salary.
