I hear you. Been reading a lot about Stafford's personality. Seems a LOT like Brett Farve. Alpha Gun Slinger who is a team leader but stay outta my way.
I'm thinking more and more the problem will be McVay and Stafford won't get along on game day.
Can McVay let go and let Stafford play the game??
There will probably be a honey moon period where the Rams will be on fire and all will be well. Will that last 8 games? 24 and into next season?
Can't wait to find out!
Actually, I think this idea that McVay is a huge micromanager and can't let go of the reigns is grossly overstated.
There have been reports that one of the issues that McVay had with Goff is that he wasn't an alpha that grabbed the offense and took ownership of it. McVay is on record as saying he wanted an elite QB who would "grow beyond him" which means someone who puts their imprint on the offense beyond his scheme. They gave Goff that contract in expectation that he would continue to grow into being that elite QB.
That sounds like the opposite of being a micromanager.
McVay wants someone that he doesn't have to constantly coach to the last second. It sounds like he's only done it with Goff because of where he is in his development or lack of development.
My guess, based on these reports, is that Stafford and McVay will be fine for a long time.
