McVay's worst record was 9-7 as the Rams HC. Before McVay, the last time the team won 9 games? 2003 under Martz. Thats 13 years of losing (or I guess the 2 8-8 seasons isn't losing, but it ain't winning) so yeah. I think McVay, along with Snead have time. Esp with an owner that has been known to be hands off.
They traded 2 first rounders for Stafford, so they are on the hot seat now? What about the 2 1sts for Ramsey, or the 1st for Cooks? Ramsey hasn't gotten them to a SB.
I'm not worried about Snead and McVay in anyway.
But Jared on the other hand is in a precarious spot. He's going to a Lions team that had the worst defense (or one of the worst), a new HC, new GM and an offense that probably loses their #1,#2, and #3 or #4 WR s in Golloday, jones and Amendola.
They seem content to rebuild this from the ground up, but it will take time and Goff has basically 2 years to convince the team he is their guy going forward. It gets even dicier if they draft a QB at #7 this year or at where ever they pick next year. Say its 8th and 32nd. Thats enough ammo to go get a QB if they so choose.
And if you read or listen to alot of talking heads, they are already asking if Goff is just a seat warmer until they get their rookie QB and some talent around him. How quickly can they move on from Goff or I've even read if they could actually turn around and trade him after March 17th (good grief).
I think Goff is going into a tough situation with a good, young RB in Swift, a good, young TE in Hockenson and a decent left side of the line. But he will have little as far as WR help (even if they take a WR at #7, not all rookie wideouts just step in and ball) The right side of the line is shaky at best and he will have to learn a new offense. And I don't think his new OC is as sharp as McVay is. he's good, just not that good.
I feel bad for Goff, he seems like a really nice guy. But when life gives you lemons, make orange juice. (that sounds right) I hope he nails it in Detroit, but man, that deck is really stacked against him.
