I am a fantasy football player.
My dynasty leagues are in the playoffs every year.
When one dynasty league started 10 years ago, a 2 QB league ... I picked QBs with my first two picks. I picked guys I believed would have the longest most consistently high scoring careers. 10 years later I still start them with confidence. Stafford is one of them.
I have been conscious of his play, and the weapons he has had around him. I have been conscious of how he's likely to be playing from behind and gunslinging in garbage time.
Besides being thrilled for my fantasy team going into next year (echoed by the fantasy site I use), I am happy for our team. Although I'll likely be dropping Deandre Swift, lol.
I know it seems like a lot to trade. It's not.
The worst mistake a franchise can make is getting financially tied to a player that loses favor. The worst of those worsts is if it's a QB.
WE JUST GOT OUT OF THAT.
1) So first, just let that sink in. We were gonna be tied to Goff in a bad marriage for years. That's over.
2) Matt has never had a defense or a running game. Ever. Besides Megatron he hasn't had a high caliber WR. He has never had an imaginative OC.
3) I don't care about first rounders. Not with how we've drafted and groomed players.
4) Having watched Matt for a decade to assess whether I needed to replace him, I have never felt that I would need to.
5) I see Stafford as having 7-8 years left in his tank.
6) We have every piece for consistent runs deep into the playoffs except QB. Did Goff do it once? Yes. When we were a new gimmick and had Gurley. And then we got blanked by the Patriots when Gurley wasn't 100%.
7) There was a time when I believed Goff could win a game for us on his own ... put us on his back and make it happen. I don't believe that now.
8) The level of motivation in Goff's demeanor, vs. what I can imagine Matt will have coming in? Huge difference. A Hungry vet who has had zero help coming to a contender for a chance to play football in January every year?
9) On Deshaun ... running QBs with ACLs in their history freak me out long term.
10) My rule for QBs ... I expect 3 hours of unrelenting optimism and leadership every week. I have no doubts that Stafford can do that.
11) A QB that can get it done is what Aaron Donald deserves.
12) The ridiculous pick in the Seattle game that Goff made? I've never seen Stafford make that throw.
I can't believe we got out of that contract. 2 1s and a 3? No problem.
Deshaun would have been flashier, but I can see how unlikely the Texans would have been to let him go for what we were needing to get done.
Anyway, that's where I'm at.
In Blinkscout I trust. Love your scounting reports and reviews.
