He does not need to be a typical running qb just be able to make some plays outside of the pocket And pickup easy yards goff turns down. I don't know if you know this but mariota is 6'4' 222 the same size as Goff also just one year older than goff but he ran 4.48 40. His injuries have been pretty minor his worst was a broken fibula. Most were just some type of strains that kept him out of a couple of games. Tennessee wasnt willing to comit big money to him that's why they let him go. I wouldn't comit big money to him either. He did win a playoff game with tennesee as a starter and made them competitive when they weren't a very good team. I don't think he would be a long term solution but maybe a year or two until we draft someone that McVay and snead want. This would just get us out of cap hell and still give us a viable option to succeed.
I've long been curious about Mariota's potential but when he was clearly outplayed by Tannehill that said a lot. If McVay thinks he could do something with him I guess it's worth a shot. But between his injuries and seeming limitations as a starter, don't think I'd take a chance on him.
